My social issue which honestly shouldn't be a social issue at all is on capital punishment. If you think about it, people have been killed for their actions for years upon years, but at some point we decided to make it an official way of gaining justice. I live in Canada so I'm not necessarily the biggest capital punishment expert but I'll at least put my two cents in of what the media portrays it as. It's different based on your location, of course in Canada because we are "the greatest country in the world" and everything we frown upon it because of how sensitive we are to all things violent. In the U.S it is much different, of course because of the wide variety of people shoving their opinions down each other's throats it is hard to estimate who thinks what. The media in Canada makes it seem heartless and cruel to do that to someone and we can all hug our conflicts away, although who says it's a bad thing? If you committed a crime would you rather be killed and it would be over just like that or go to a stinky prison with stinky people and rot for the rest of your life while being beat up and raped once in a while most likely which everyone agree does not seem very fun, and in my opinion at lot worse than being killed which takes away all that time you would have wasted picking your nose in the prison. Or look at it from a victim stand point, would you rather watch someone rot like I said or watch a bullet go through their brain or their neck snapped? Different people have different preferences I guess and maybe we as a global community need to all stop being close minded to having one or the other and agree maybe it isn't right nor wrong and that maybe just let the victim or the guilty choose what they want because either way they will no longer be contributing to society so what does it really matter. In the U.S. they make criminals getting capital punishment seem like ruthless beasts but I bet you could sit down with nearly 80% of them and have a cup of coffee and discuss the good ol' days or share a story or two, they're sure to have some good ones to share. It's not whether or not capital punishment is a problem, it's how the media portrays it that makes it right or wrong, and that is what the problem is.
